“Lagunitas Sucks”…no I didn’t mean that literally, I was just ordering Lagunitas’ new holiday beer” and I can see how that may sounds odd to someone who isn’t aware that such a beer exists.
Every year around the holidays Lagunitas has released the Brown Sugar, their seasonal-holiday-ish beer. Unfortunately, this year Lagunitas didn’t have the capacity to produce the Brown Sugar. Since the Brown Sugar brews at a much slower pace than their daily brews, Lagunitas could not produce the Brown Sugar while being able to brew enough of the daily brews to supply the current demand. Instead, Lagunitas decided to brew a new beer that brewed at rate closer to their daily brews and still was special enough to make up for the lack of Brown Sugar. The result is Lagunitas Sucks Holiday Ale, a very unique and complex American Strong Ale.
As you pour it in a glass, you will notice a clear, light-golden color liquid with little head. Soon after you begin to notice an immensely hoppy, mouth watering aroma. The flavor is of bitter hops with just a hint of sweetness with a quickly subsiding bitter finish.
Sucks is a unique ale that could be enjoyed, and probably produced, year-round.
