Kick Start Your Day With Spicy Oatmeal

Spicy Oatmeal

Al likes oatmeal but sometimes he like to take it up to another notch. I was not completely sold on the idea but now I am a believer! It does not taste like I am eating oatmeal anymore, which is good because I do not like the taste of sweet or plain oatmeal.  Al has opened a new world of possibilities for me with this spicy oatmeal idea where I have started treating oatmeal the same way I treat dense rice congee for breakfast; for example I have had it with soy sauce and, on another occasion, with fish sauce.

You might think this is weird but if you are starting to get tired of plain or sweet oatmeal consider venturing outside the box and have some spicy oatmeal with us in the morning!

Serving: 1

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup of Old Fashion Oats or Rolled Oats (I like the Publix Brand Old Fashion Oats!)
  • 1 Cup of water
  • 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon of hot pepper oil of choice (Chinese takeout ones works really well)
  • Salt to taste

Procedure:

  • Add hot pepper oil and salt to water
  • Bring water to a close boil. (no lid needed)
  • Add Oats into the water
  • Give it a quick stir where the oats are in the water evenly
  • Turn the heat down to medium
  • Set timer for 5 minutes
  • After 5 minutes, take it off the heat
  • Let it rest and then serve!
