I recently traveled to California to visit my family. I am sure everyone says this about their family but I am so proud of all my cousins. I think they are the coolest! Of course, I am one of the youngest in the family so I have always thought that about them!
We were fortunate enough to spend a good amount of time with almost all my cousins where one of which is the most sought after designer and event planner in the San Francisco Bay Area! My cousin Morgan Doan is so talented and her work is truly amazing and breathtaking. She has seen her fair share of trends in foods, wines and cocktails and she shares with me her latest discovery. A cocktail called “Serrano Heat” which is made with Serrano peppers and topped with her favorite ginger beer by Bundaberg. Here is how you make it!
Serrano Heat Cocktail
Servings: 6
Glass: Rock Glass
Method: Muddle/Shake
Ingredients:
4 thin slices of Serrano Pepper
3 Tbls. of simple syrup (fridge)
1/2 lemon squeezed
Muddle above ingredients in shaker
Add: 1 can (6oz) pineapple juice
Add: 3 oz. of vodka (9 count)
Stir and taste for spiciness
In a rocks glass full of ice, pour mix 3/4 glass full. Top off with ginger beer (Morgan says Bundaberg is the best! But I am a Captin Eli’s Ginger Beer fan!)
Garnish:
Lemon Twist
The taste is a little confusing but it is wonderful! There is a subtle hint with a kick but it goes over so well with the pineapple and the carbonation from the ginger beer. To me, it is very refreshing but to others who are not into spicy foods, this would not be recommended.
I am in love with this drink! Give it a try at your next house party and most likely your guests will be taken by surprise! I think this drink is great by itself but it would also pair well with Mexican, Tex-Mex, Seafood like steamed or baked fish.
I am going to make it soon so I will post step-by-step photos on how to mix this spicy and refreshing drink! More photos coming soon!
