An American Gastropub is located at 1234 N. Orange Avenue in Winter Park. Now this is an interesting place! The chef/owner, James and Julie Petrakis, whipped up a very unique and upscale pub that serves more than just your ordinary “pub” food.
You may be wondering,
“What the heck is gastropub?”
-But ask yourself…”Do you REALLY WANT TO KNOW??”
-Just kidding!
According to Wikipedia, this British term “gastropub” means, public house that specializes in high-quality food a step above the more basic pub food. With that said, it was, without a doubt, high-quality foods.
This is what my fiancé and I ordered: Lobster Tacos, Shrimp and Grits (as our appetizer) Kobe Beef Carpaccio (for our main entrée), and for dessert, Baked Alaska.
The first thing that came out was the Shrimp and Grits described in the menu as, “Florida rock shrimp, green tomato chutney with chorizo oil.”
What a combination!
This appetizer is great. It is so unique and unusual it was just something we had to order and try for ourselves. Talk about taking different elements and merging them together to make one very MEGA YUMMO flavor. It tasted like chowder but had a surprise burst of sweetness from the corn and tomatoes. The mild flavor from the chorizo oil gave ordinary grits one heck of a make-over. The shrimp were all very tender and extremely flavorful. We really enjoyed the Ravenous Pig’s specialty grits and would recommend it to any foodie adventurist.
Following our delicious grits was their famous Lobster Tacos which contains “cilantro, pickled jalapeno, and cabbage slaw.”
It was three servings of MegaYummo tacos. It was like melting the classic flavors of Chinese and Mexican food. It was very flavorful …it’s no wonder people keep coming back for more.
A last, the Kobe Beef Carpaccio arrives. This beautiful display of Kobe Beef topped with arugula and blue-cheese beignets was not only eye candy but also very heavenly as well. When I took my first bit of the very thinly-sliced and succulent beef, there were just so many flavors happening in my mouth. It all just melted together to create the one flavor that is fit for a king. To be honest, I was a bit on the disappointed side to see how small the portions were, but no matter, I was leaving room for dessert!
It just so happened that the Ravenous Pig just added a new dessert item to their menu, Baked Alaska.
“It just seems too pretty to eat!”
This home-made and delectable sweet was tantalizing to the senses. Warm, cold, crispy, soft how could I describe it other than totally MEGA YUMMO!
The Ravenous Pig provided a very sophisticated experience with the colorful selection of ingredients that confuses the wits out of your senses. It is definitely on the more expensive side but it is worth the experience. It almost seems that you TWO personal chefs cooking up everything from scratch for you. This place would be ideal for special occasions, business, or for a romantic dinner for two.

The staff makes the restaurant superb!Traveling a lot helps me to be aware of GREAT service versus good service. Ravenous Pig has GREAT service. When I inquired, I learned that Lee Kalele deserves high kudos for this task!
