Nile Ethiopian Restaurant

My wife and I are constantly in search of new places to eat and recently found this place. I was surprised that I had driven by it many times, but didn’t know it existed until now.

Neither of us had ever tried Ethiopian food before and were both anxious about the experience.

As I stepped into the place I immediately sensed the intoxicating aroma of fresh coffee mixed with incense and nothing is better than the smell of fresh roasted coffee!

The ambiance is truly pleasing and relaxing…

a rarity in the chaos that is… I-Drive.

The dining room filled with bright colors and decorated with authentic hand-made Ethiopian goods.

For those who have not had the pleasure to experience Ethiopian dining, allow me to explain.

The menu encompasses a wide variety of meats as well as vegetarian dishes served family style. Unique to their cuisine is their seasoning and sauces, which I would describe to someone who’s never tasted Ethiopian food before as being somewhere between Indian and Lebanese cuisine.

We chose to have the Yebeg Tibs Special which are cubes of fresh lamb sautéed with onions, garlic, and herb butter. As for our second choice, the Nile Meat Combination which is composed of Chicken Doro Alicha, Beef Key Wat, Beef Alichea, Beef Cubes and Collard Greens all served in a single and very large dish over a mega piece of Injera (Ethiopian bread).

This brings me to the next step…

How to Eat Ethiopian Style!

Food is served family style and no utensils are used (or supplied). Instead there is a huge dependency on Injera, a thin, crepe-like bread made from teff flour is used to pick up the food.

The process is simple, tear off a piece of Injera, use it to grab some food from the plate, roll the bread around the food and eat.
